New Documentary Screens at SHO Farm: PlantPure Nation

We are proud to present a new documentary film, PlantPure Nation, from the producer and writer of the award-winning film Forks Over Knives.  We are honored to share our do no harm, plant-based permaculture farm, SHO Farm, with the PlantPure Nation team to bring the first Vermont screening of this important film.  Screening dates are Sept. 26 & 27 (buy tickets - details below), with an exciting post-screening Skype Q&A on the 26th with Dr. Campbell and his son, Nelson (the film's director).

Based on the groundbreaking work of Dr. T. Colin Campbell, PlantPureNation presents the weight of scientific evidence that a whole foods plant-based diet can prevent and even reverse some of the most deadly health conditions, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even some forms of cancer.  It's a story of three people on a quest to spread this message, and the heartfelt challenges and transformations that they, and many others in a small North Carolina town, go through.  The important but controversial subjects of health and food are handled by Dr. Campbell and Nelson with love, kindness, and humility.

Dr. Campbell is a professor Emeritus at Cornell University, author, scientific researcher, international lecturer, and founder of the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies.  His expertise and scientific interests encompass relationships between diet and disease, with an emphasis on cancer.  Dr. Campbell was raised on a dairy farm, but is now widely-known for researching links between animal-based protein diets and disease.

His legacy, the China Project, “is the most comprehensive study of health and nutrition ever conducted”.  In 2005 he published the results of his work in the best-selling book, The China Study, which serves as the impetus for PlantPure Nation.

From their family’s dairy farm to the halls of the Kentucky legislature, the story is rooted in the inspiring journey of real people, responding to the truths shared in this uplifting film.

We are thrilled to bring the film to our Vermont community, and honored to collaborate with the PlantPure Nation team.  SHO Farm seems the perfect setting to engage in community conversation around a plant-based diet, since we are a do no harm, plant-only farm set within a rural working landscape that is largely defined by Vermont's traditional agricultural products -- meat, milk, maple.

SHO Farm is Earth Asset's largest land investment and singular model of our land investment philosophy.  Land, food and health are the lenses through which we examine investment opportunities.  But it’s not enough to simply look through these lenses.  Focus, which we equate with integrity, trustworthiness, and risk mitigation, is achieved by relying upon professional due diligence and science-based approaches and findings.

When it comes to food and health, which are inextricably connected, we strive to uncover the most current, evidence-based information available.  We, like Dr. Campbell, look for the truth rather than seeking confirmation of our existing beliefs.  We draw from a global library of information, but have grounded our micronutrient-rich crop selections in the work of a few notable nutritional scientists and practicing physicians right here in the USA.

Dr. Joel Fuhrman, a board-certified family physician and nutritional researcher who specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional and natural methods, has established a widely-respected educational, research-based medical practice on which we rely for our core information.  He is an internationally recognized expert on nutrition and natural healing, the author of eight books on human nutrition including 5 New York Times best-sellers; Eat To LiveSuper ImmunityThe End of DiabetesThe Eat To Live Cookbook, and The End of Dieting.  He was instrumental in founding the Nutritional Research Foundation, and currently serves as the Director of Research.  Others include Dr. Caldwell EsselstynDr. Michael GregerDr. Neal Barnard, and Dr. John McDougall.

But, our work and investment decisions greatly rely on Dr. Campbell's research given that he is a leading nutrition researcher with a lifetime of academic and large-scale human studies to draw on.

As such, it is a privilige to screen the film, and very special to be able to offer our community a chance to engage with Dr. Campbell and Nelson.
